There is no greater joy than the start of the vendimia season. It’s a time where the long days of back-breaking work amongst the vines finally comes to fruition and we reap the fruits of our labor. The early mornings are crisp and cool, and the rising sun illuminates the grape vines in a way that takes your breath away.

The excitement is palpable as we gather with family, friends and guests picking the ripest and juiciest grapes, and filling baskets until they overflow. The air is filled with the sound of laughter and song, and the earthy aroma of the vineyard surrounds us.
The vendimia is a time that reminds us of the beauty of life, the importance of hard work, and the power of community. We had close to 200 people attend the wine harvest of 2021 – despite the pandemic only just being a thing of the past.

We harvested close to 1000Kg of grapes BUT, the kids (and many thirsty adults) immediately used over 400Kg to make delicious smoothies from the grape juice. All the kids had special little buckets and we set up table with blenders and ice. It was fun and delicious and perhaps the best use of fresh grapes!

Thanks to our excellent grape juice smoothie consumption, the yield for our winemaking was lower than expected – about 500 litres went into our fermentation containers. We ended up with 400 bottles of delicious wine which was a little high in alcohol content: 13.2% to be exact. Still, our enologist declared it ¨free of defects¨and excellent and many many guests at subsequent events requested one or more bottles to take home once they sampled the 2021 Can Picard Pancia Blanca vintage.
Well done everyone!!
